They have large brains, a more vertical posture and shorter tail to keep the head balanced near the center of gravity. Basilisks are very fast runners with long legs and three toes on each foot. They have four-fingered grasping hands with a strong opposing thumb and strong arms allowing them to use tools and weapons quite effectively. Small paired horns on the chin and a thin crest running from the head all the way down the length of the spine seem to have no function beyond display and identification. The Basilisk voice is somewhat low pitched, and their languages tend to use slow, monotone, simple syllables that their mouths and vocal cords can handle. Some of the words in these languages are pronounced using body parts other than the mouth, like hand clapping for example. Basilisks have a strong sense of smell, and so their conversation often takes this for granted. (For example, a Basilisk may assume that it's obvious exactly what is cooking, when other anthrosaurs may be guessing in spite of what they can smell.) For defense, the Basilisks can rely on their speed and either the simple claws on their hands and feet or artificial weapons. Males have a decorative row of short spines that extend from the top of their heads, down their spines, to the tips of their tails. Copyright © 1997 - 2003 Seth Galbraith and Benjamin Galbraith |
