- Metro is a large high school in a city.
- Dodgeball is Metro's least-respected sport, attracting the athletes that don't "make the cut" for the other sports.
- Backwater is out in the woods, with a "honey bucket" and a couple of portables.
- The only sport Backwater can compete in is dodgeball, using their best athletes.
- The rivalry has been going on for generations, so that there is social pressure on both teams to succeed.
