2003.06.30 - Monday

Topps vs. HeroClix (13:05 PST): According to the www.WizKidsGames.com web site, Topps is purchasing the Hero Clix/Mage Knights company. I hope they're going to make a Garbage Pale Kids RPG. - BFGalbraith

2003.06.11 - Thursday

Downed Server (13:00 PST): Our main server is down, in case you are wondering why our web page hasn't been working correctly over the last 24 hours. We're pretty new at this whole having-our-own-server thing. - BFGalbraith

2003.05.30 - Friday

Abaddon Notes (12:06 PST): Over a year ago, The Serpent Lord let us look at some of his design notes on a Squawk setting he was developing. We have posted part of an abstract he wrote about this "Abaddon" setting. - BFGalbraith

2003.05.17 - Saturday

Blender 2.27 (19:03 PST): A new version of Blender is out. Check out the new version 2.27. - Ulrich Galbraith

OQ vs. Mapes (11:13 PST): Mapes is Galbraith Games's new Open Quartz "project manager". (There may be other OQ project managers, but he's the one on our team.) He's still growing into his position, but he's already made some interesting progress with allowing players to go from one server to another in mid-game. - BFGalbraith

2003.05.09 - Friday

Bobbee Tec (13:23 PST): We've been cooperating with Bobbee Tec, a company who wanted to use some FGA material in a demo of their 3D engine for the Game Boy Advance. This DRG is designed especially for porting Quake and Quake II engine games to the GBA. (I'm pretty sure it's the only true 3D engine for that platform.) Well, it is looking like they will be sporting their 3D Game Boy engine at E3! - BFGalbraith

2003.04.18 - Friday

Behold: Xanadu (14:20 PST): There is now a new Squawk World called "Xanadu". We've been working on this world, along with a few other new worlds, for some time. - BFGalbraith

2003.04.04 - Friday

Squawk Update (21:50 PST): We are currently updating the Squawk Anthrosaur and Bestiary pages to work with H&S RPS v.2003.03.19 . We are pretty much done, but there may be a few slight changes over the next few days. - BFGalbraith

2003.03.21 - Thursday

H&S RPS Update (15:30 PST): We've released Hack and Slash Role-Playing System version 2003.03.19 today. For you new people, the Hack and Slash computer game and Hack and Slash Role-Playing System (H&S RPS) are two different parts of the same open source Hack and Slash project. The H&S RPS is meant to be an engine for paper and pencil RPGs, as well as be core set of rules to for use in Action RPG computer games. - BFGalbraith

2003.03.20 - Thursday

Blood Zero Demo (23:10 PST): My favorite game last year was Totally Screwed's "Zombie Smashers X." Now Totally Screwed has put a game demo that promises even greater greatness: Blood Zero. I particularly enjoyed playing as a shotgun-armed brain-eating rat. The game even has an option to beep out the bad words, which is a nice touch. - BFGalbraith

2003.03.17 - Monday

FGA:Moved&Improved (18:40 PST): www.planetquake.com/gg is the new location for the Free Game Arts. The Free Game Arts has been updated to include links to Red Hat, PlaneShift and Blender, some of the most important projects to open source game development. (Just for the record, the hits at this site were about 80 and the hits at planetquake.com/gg were about 33,989 when we made these changes.) - BFGalbraith

2003.03.03 - Monday

www.squawkrpg.net (15:00 PST): We've been threatening to do it for a long time, but now we have actually gone and done it: www.squawkrpg.net is now a reality! As a side note, we've updated the Ogre description to be more accurate (they are supposed to be knuckle-walkers.) - BFGalbraith

2003.02.22 - Saturday

New Blender (8:05 PST): Supposedly the all purpose 3D game development tool, Blender has recently had thier first "officially open source" release (version 2.26). They also have a new web page: http://www.blender3d.org/ - BFGalbraith

2003.02.20 - Thursday

Crystal Space Rules (16:05 PST): Crystal Space made project of the month at SourceForge this month! Obviously this is very well deserved. Check it out at: http://sourceforge.net/pom_0203.php - BFGalbraith

2003.02.17 - Monday

8:00 (8:00 PST): Sam's club is selling Red Hat PC's. Check out the yahoo news on this one! - BFGalbraith

Return of the Mapes (8:00 PST): Mapes is back and on the attack! I suppose we should update our contact page. - BFGalbraith

Review of 2002 (8:00 PST): Last year we worked on various Squawk projects, updated the Hack and Slash Role-Playing system numerous times, temporarily lost The Serpent Lord, (who is not due back until next year,) saw Prydon's Gate emerge (the first Quake TC with bolt-ons, and Diablo sytle play-control, as far as I know,) expanded our expectations for Hack and Slash SourceForge project (to include more content, effectively becoming our main open source project instead of the Free Models Project,) moved the Hack and Slash web page to SourceForge, discovered the goodness that is Open Office, got crapped on by GameSpy, saw the rise of PlaneShift (Crystal Space MMPORG,) ditched the open gaming license option on the H&S RPS, witnessed the beginning of the Jenkara model editor, played that greatness which is Zombie Smashers X, and finally released a stand-alone version of the Hack-and-slash computer game !!! - BFGalbraith
