Climate

Xanadu's high axial tilt - with the poles getting the same average temperature and precipitation as the equator - allows a uniform temperate climate around the globe.

Terrain

About 25% of the planet's surface is dry land, mostly concentrated in several large continents separated by shallow seas. Flat terrain and narrow seaways, make travel easy across these continents.

Xanadu's continents are covered in grassland and a few deserts. Large, slow moving rivers, are surrounded by vast irrigated agricultural areas. There are many salt water marshes and fresh water swamps too. Seasonal snow on the mountains provides fresh water for the rivers. Xanadu's few forests and jungles are found in the foothills of these ranges.

The Empire

Xanadu's larger continents have ruled by the current dynasty for hundreds of years. The Empire is even more ancient, going back thousands of years to the beginning of recorded history. The Empire's boundaries have changed over time. The current dynasty has brought the Empire to a climax of power, ruling over most of the planet's intelligent beings.

Opposition to the Empire

Numerous clans, tribes, gangs and hordes openly oppose the Empire in areas the dynasty has not been able to dominate: larger mountain ranges, smaller continents, islands and other hard-to-reach places. Some nomadic groups also wage war within the Imperial borders as a way of life.
